Todd’s background is 15 years in the advertising industry and since relocating to Byron Bay five years ago, Todd has focussed on using his experience to assist local businesses, particularly start-ups. Demonstrating a passion to partner with ethical and sustainable businesses, to the benefit of the community as a whole, Todd is also an advocate for continual improvement in the quality of local businesses overall, to meet a rapidly changing market and local economy. When moving to the region Todd noticed the above average diversity and entrepreneurial activity in the Bryon Shire and is passionate to foster this already impressive diversity.

Inspired by the world class businesses that have made Byron their base he is keen for the Chamber to acknowledge their success and to support others to follow in their footsteps.

Penny Beaumont

Penny recently relocating to the Byron region after having lived in Canberra for just on 40 years. She was a business partner in what was previously one of the largest and most successful construction and development companies in Canberra. She acted as the Interior Designer, Marketing and Sales Manager, besides being a Company Director. She went onto Real Estate Sales, Project and Property Portfolio Management. Penny’s background is in all facets of the Land and Property Industry and her superior knowledge off the diverse options available has developed to a desire to explore all opportunities for Affordable and Sustainable development. Her multi-faceted understanding of children (having had 8 children herself), families and the interaction within that structure has gifted her with an immense depth of wisdom and compassion.


Penny’s ability to build rapport and to observe people’s interactions and behaviour patterns has her in good stead to be able to strategize for the future for the good of THE ALL.

Gail has been a resident of the shire for 20 years. She currently owns and runs Byron Coastal Real Estate and has been in the real estate industry for just under 20 years now.  Gail’s background was merchant banking and foreign exchange money brokering in London.

Gail’s passion is community and bringing the people back together with communication being the key driver. She is actively involved supporting many local events, schools and business groups. She feels it is important that the business community feel supported and that the board voices the towns views.

Ben Funnell

Ben holds a Master of Business Administration from The Australian National University, he is a certified Project Management Professional and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is an experienced executive from the tertiary education sector and has provided business transformation services to professionals in disciplines such as counselling, case management, nursing, psychology, social work and more recently the creative industries through SAE Creative Media Institute in Byron Bay. He has managed a number of education businesses – both large and small – and is passionate about learning and growth.

Ben believes that education has a long lasting, positive impact in our communities well beyond mere job opportunities. To this end, Ben is keen to connect young people with local businesses for mutual benefit.

A Creative Director with over 30 years experience Desiree has been working in the creative industries since she was 22 years old. Formerly working as an Art Director and lead on multimillion-dollar accounts in international ad agencies in Switzerland, she managed teams to great success. Since migrating to Australia in 2001 she successfully re-established her business Design-Arts in Northern NSW which has continued to grow its international foot print.

Desiree is passionate about healthy communities and brings dedication and absolute care to the many projects she is involved in. She knows that a healthy business community is vital to a healthy community at large.

Adam Collett

Adam spent 10 years in New York gathering experience in arts administration, event production and small business management, as well as founding his own internet agency before serving as Creative Director for an internet start-up company for 3 years. 

Since returning to Byron in 2012, he has devoted himself to local arts and cultural initiatives, co-managing Kulcha Jam for 18 months before supporting and establishing a number of Youth and Indigenous programs. He founded the Creative Foundation Social Enterprise, and is the Founder of the Encounter Project Inc. which is designed to empower local creative arts, support small enterprise and facilitate social programs, all while fostering and showcasing the culture of Byron Bay.

Adam is dedicated to community and cultural development in Byron and beyond.

Lynne Stephens

Lynne is a long term resident of the Byron Shire, moving to the area in the late 70’s. Lynne’s background includes Director of Brunswick Community Pre-school and owner of the original Balcony Restaurant in the 80’s and 90’s. She has recently returned to the areas after expanding her career over 15 years with TAFE QLD. Since 2010, Lynne is the founding and managing director of Australasian Leadership Academy (ALA). Her role includes developing customised training solutions for corporate clients nationally, building strong relationships, developing business alliances and partnerships. ALA is also a boutique Registered Training Organisation (RTO), delivering accredited training programs for individuals through eLearning solutions.

Lynne has a passion for building relationships and networks in the community. She is looking forward to supporting businesses and helping to build interest and enthusiasm for the chamber so that the community can expand their networks.
